International Council of Museums
Maintaining its formal relations with UNESCO, the Paris-headquartered International Council of Museums (ICOM) is the international non-governmental organization of museums and museum professionals. ICOM's searchable, bilingual web site serves to introduce the organization, including its mission, statutes, governing bodies, membership, activities, and resources. It also presents, and links to, ICOM's numerous national and international committees (the latter being "devoted to the study of a particular type of museum or to a specific museum-related discipline"), as well as regional and affiliated organizations. In addition, the site offers the fundamental ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums online (in various languages); thematic articles from recent issues of ICOM's quarterly newsletter, ICOM News; online versions of ICOM's Study Series; a catalogue of ICOM publications to order; "Red Lists" of cultural heritage objects at risk; annotated and hyperlinked bibliographies; details of the UNESCO-ICOM Museum Information Centre; and links to major discussion lists and many other relevant resources.
